Sensorial Loop - 1st Tamworth Textile Triennial

Tamworth Regional Gallery then touring regional galleries in the eastern states for 2 years. It is now at RMIT Melbourne.

Would You Like Some Cake?

This work is about people and their emotional and physical relationships. I consider the knitted wire as metaphor for how we are linked together, each stitch depending on the other for support. It is a support network, but one that is fraught with complications. The interlinked lace areas and holes reflect the degrees of closeness or distance that we have in our families - estranged or not; and friends - maybe long lost or current. As the work is traversed and the viewpoint changed the holes will open up and close up into a solid net of wire. Lace doilies traditionally put on the table when friends and family come to visit; a welcoming mat, a beautifying agent, but perhaps also a camouflage for when not all is well. When a doily is lifted and only a fine lace pattern in dust is left, it could be too late to make amends. >
